It was my first time to visit a brewery, and join in a brewery tour!! Although I have walked around the brewery thanks to David at Acorn Brewery for my research, I joined in Jennings' brewery tour with my parents from Tokyo.
Jennnings' brewery is one of the most famous breweries in the UK-they are one of the group breweries in Marston's, Burton-upon-Trent. After the tour, I sampled their fresh ales at their beer bar. My tour guide, she was very friendly and introduced me their head brewer, Jeremy! It was a nice surprise, but I should have taken my auto-recorder with me!! It was a fantastic opportunity to have an interview!! He was kindly answering my questions.
Although Jennings' brewery is in Marston's group, and some people say beers by Marston's group (mass-produced brewery) are not local and traditionsl compared to small breweries (a few miles down brewery), Jeremy was not happy about it. He said they are sticking to their traditional recipes, ingredients and local employment. Yes-he is right. Even Marston's is a big group in the UK, they are different from global 'lager' companies!!
